Some statistics to better understand:

  • 14.7% of people suffer from migraines, this represents more than 6 million people in Canada.
  • 90% of people with migraines experience light sensitivity during a migraine attack.
  • 40% of these same people also experience light sensitivity outside of their migraine attacks.
  • 30 to 60% of migraine attacks are triggered by light or a reflection of light.

Possible impacts of migraine attacks on a daily basis:

Physical impacts

Social impacts

Economic impacts

  • Headaches, sometimes really intense,
  •  Avoidance of certain activities,
  •  Decreased productivity at work or school during a migraine attack,
  • Photosensitivity,
  •  Tensions in personal and/or marital relationships,
  •  Increase in the number of absences due to migraines,
  • Nausea/vomiting,
  •  Missed family events,
  •  Unpaid time off,
  • Vertigo/dizziness,
  •  Less time spent with children or family,
  •  Expensive doctor appointments and treatments for medications that will sometimes stop working.
  •  Distorted vision.
  •  Depression/anxiety,

  •  Impact on family and/or friends.

For all these reasons and to improve the quality of life of people prone to migraines or photosensitivity, Avulux ophthalmic lenses were developed.

The design of these lenses aligns with recent research linking certain wavelengths of light to increased pain and sensitivity.

Light overexcites a specific cell in the eye and can cause migraines and/or increased pain to light. Blue, orange, red and white light spectra are known to be more harmful and stimulate these eye cells more, leading to light sensitivity and/or migraines. On the contrary, green light spectra are known to be gentler.

Avulux eyeglass lenses are therefore based on this research and incorporate a slight tint that filters 97% of blue, orange, red and white light, and lets through 70% of soothing green light.

Avulux ophthalmic lenses are patented and have been tested to high scientific standards in an independent, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial.

They can be worn indoors and outdoors, and are available as non-prescription glasses (plano), prescription glasses or over-glasses.

It is possible to adopt preventive wear, at all times or during a specific activity involving long exposure to the computer or intense light; or wear during an acute crisis, as soon as symptoms appear during the day.

Benefits of Avulux therapeutic lenses:

  • No side effects, unlike taking certain medications;
  • No distortion related to the tint of the lenses, so they provide comfort without affecting the quality of vision or the quality of life;
  • No downtime required: they can be used anywhere, at any time and are compatible with all treatments (medicinal or other);
  • No recurring costs: one pair is enough.
  • 3-months adaptation warranty: satisfied or refunded.
